Use in production with SQL Server Authentication -- how?

I'm setting up a SharePoint server with dual authentication as detailed at http://tinyurl.com/7qp4zp3. The integrated Windows authentication is working, and the SQL Server authentication is also working, using a database created by C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regsql.exe. I've downloaded MyWSAT and set up another web site running it using the provided sample database on SQL Server 2008 R2.

The two databases look pretty similar; obviously the MyWSAT one has more stuff, but it appears to be a superset of the other. But no matter what I try -- Export, Copy, Attach and Rename, ... I can't get the SharePoint people picker to validate names from the MyWSAT database. How can I set up SQL Server authentication to use the sample database, or modify the working ddatab ase to be compatible with MyWSAT?

Follow the steps here exactly:

Forms Based Authentication - SharePoint Claims Based Authentication Sites.

  1. Follow the instructions here:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kaevans/archive/2010/07/09/sql-server-provider-for-claims-based-authentication-in-sharepoint-2010.aspx
  2. To implement a custom login screen see:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kaevans/archive/2010/07/09/creating-a-custom-login-page-for-sharepoint-2010.aspx

Good Luck!

What if you aren't using SharePoint?  Instructions on moving this to SQL 2008 would be great and all the configurations that need to be done
